    Those peers that know me well seldom find me at a loss for words. Several of them suggested I start blogging two years ago when I first spoke to partners at SMB Nation in 2005. These same people also suggested I write a book focusing on helping partners mostly doing break fix work to convert to a managed services business model.

    Well, it took two years, and the book is finally ready! Not only that, but given the last two years experience and changing market for managed services, this book is better than it would have been if it was published 18 months ago. I hope it is not too late for those who were eager to start selling service contracts 2 yrs ago and sent me emails looking for assistance. I hope I was helpful then and I am confident that A Guide to SELLING Managed Services – faster, easier, & for greater profit will help them now more than ever. Charles Van Heusen from Microsoft’s TS2 team said it was worth the wait… you tell me.

    I am excited to have this book finally out. I’ll never forget Harry Brelsford who told me “Books don’t really make money, dude.” He was not trying to discourage me – on the contrary, Harry’s positive reinforcement is one of the biggest reasons I decided to write this book. He was making sure I was not going to write a book just so I could make money on it. He was conveying (correctly) that doing so would not be effective, and the book would not be worth the cost to print it.

    That gets me (finally) to my point. Why am I excited? I am excited because I love teaching. I love sharing ideas with people and seeing them “get it.” My high is that “ah-ha” moment…

    I had fun starting my own business, consulting, building an SMB practice, hiring a staff, growing my business and successfully selling service contracts and managed services over the last 5 years. While I likely never stop selling, I am more excited than ever to possibly help others achieve the success I have and more!

    Tomorrow is the official book “launch” at 4:00 PM PDT at the Marriott Redmond Towne Center. I suppose it is fitting that my book launch coincides with SMB Nation annual conference completing the journey I began two years ago. For those of you in Redmond on Friday, I hope you’ll join me along with Karl Palachuk, Erick Simpson, Arlin Sorenson, and Stuart Crawford who have all recently published books – all geared to helping the MSP succeed. We all got together and will offer the newly available books in what we are calling the “success bundle.” If in attendance, you’ll hear from each of us with a panel discussion moderated by Jeff Middleton.

    I hope you’ll forgive the length of this blog, it is my first time “blogging” and I promise to be briefer next time.
